The market town of Holywell takes its name from the St Winefride's Well, a holy well surrounded by a chapel. The well has been known since at least the Roman period. It has been a site of Christian pilgrimage since about 660, dedicated to Saint Winefride who, according to legend, was beheaded there by Caradog who attempted to attack her. The well is one of the Seven Wonders of Wales and the town bills itself as The Lourdes of Wales. Many pilgrims from all over the world continue to visit Holywell and the Well.

From the 18th century, the town grew around the lead mining and cotton milling industries. The water supply from the mountains above the town, which flows continually and at a constant temperature, supplies the well and powered many factories in the Greenfield Valley. In addition to lead and cotton, copper production was of great importance. Thomas Williams, a lawyer from Anglesey built factories and smelteries for copper in Greenfield Valley, bringing the copper from Anglesey to St. Helens and then to Greenfield Valley where it was used to make many items for the slave trade. These items included manilas (copper bracelets), neptunes (large flat dishes to evaporate seawater to produce salt) and copper sheathing. The copper sheathing was used to cover the hulls of the wooden ships trading in the warmer Caribbean waters, giving rise to the expression 'copper bottomed investment', the sheathing was also applied to Royal Navy ships and was instrumental in Nelson's victories (two of these copper plates from HMS Victory are in Greenfield Valley Heritage Park museum).
There are approximately 120 businesses in Holywell town centre of which about 50% are retail outlets with the remainder being commercial/service businesses. Collectively, these businesses employ in the region of 800 full and part-time staff.

Town centre businesses are a mix of national and regional companies and small family-owned businesses. Among well known companies represented in the town are Tesco, Lidl, Iceland and Peacocks as well as HSBC, Barclays, Nat West and Santander. There are also a wide variety of other businesses outside the town centre but within the town boundary.

Additionally there are some 30 large and medium size commercial and industrial businesses based at the Greenfield Business Park and a further 50 or so smaller businesses based at the nearby Greenfield Business Centre where there is also a training facility for new and fledgling businesses provided by the operators, Flintshire County Council.

Here's what a landlord has just said about HelpMeRent.co.uk

A very, very happy landlord

HelpMeRent.co.uk provided us with a professional, personal and honest service throughout the whole process of renting our property. Craig communicated with us at all times with regular updates on applications along with potential viewings. Once he was satisfied he had found the "right tenants" to rent our property he arranged for us to meet them which gave us the opportunity to spend time with them.

References are an integral part of the process with no stone left unturned. Health & Safety is also not compromised with a full electrical inspection of the property to include the installation of hard wired fire alarms, heat detectors and carbon monoxide alarms.

A full Management service is provided with inspections carried out every 12 weeks in addition to their initial inventory sign off giving us a peace of mind that our property is being looked after and maintained. We have already recommended the team to friends who are looking to rent their property.

Thanks Craig and the Team at HelpMeRent.co.uk

we couldn't ask for anyone better
